United We Will Stand! by Elder Brian Moore In response to the one year anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks
"We will not waver. We will not tire. We will not falter. And we will not fail. Peace and freedom will prevail!" Those words spoken by President George Bush on Sept. 11th 2001 still echo today. The United States of America was founded on the principles of individual freedom, equality of all persons, faith in majority rule, the fundamental worth of each individual and the necessity of compromise. On Sept. 11th 2001 those principles were shaken but they did not crumble. In the face of adversity, we sought an unseen enemy, we retaliated with vengeance and sent a message to the entire world, "We will stand United one nation under God and overcome our adversaries!"
The brutal and cowardice attacks, on the World Trade Center towers, were an attempt to damage the infrastructure of freedom. Instead, the attacks served as an alarm, which awoke a sleeping giant. Approximately 260 passengers were violently killed in the plane crashes, over 120 pentagon workers brutally lost their lives, and nearly 3,000 leaped, fell, burned and were crushed to death in the World Trade Center collapse. Those who died were casualties of war, a war that shall wage on until every last enemy of freedom is defeated. The victims of 9/11 are heroes, it is left up to us as Americans to decide whether their death was in vain or not.
The United States military is currently engaged in an ongoing war against terrorism. This however, does not leave the citizenry without something to do. It is not ours to judge, or to sentence but it is ours to see that freedom endures. Together, by preserving the Bill of Rights and honoring the original intent of our founding fathers we can strike a blow to the enemy. We must respect the rights of ALL individuals, we must insist that we are ALL equal, we must believe that every individual has a fundamental worth to society, we must trust the majority and believe that they know what is best for America, and we must never fail to compromise with one another. We must stand United or we most surely will find ourselves a fallen state, which is exactly what our enemy intended to do on Sept. 11th.
America is the greatest country on earth, it consists of the greatest people on earth, the most humble and most courageous. Let us as a brothers and sisters in Christ honor America and ourselves by preserving the liberties and unalienable rights given to us first by God our Father and then by our founding fathers. Let us do our part in the fight for freedom. If you own a flag, let it fly, if you see a veteran, thank him or her for their service, if you want to be heard, VOTE, if you want to fight, continue doing the things that the enemy tried so desperately to take away, if you want to be patriotic, recite the pledge of allegiance and do so with meaning, but no matter what you do never, ever forget what happened one year ago today. Let us remember that our country was founded by God fearing men, who believed in a just and powerful God. Let us continue to offer prayers for our leaders, let us pray for our brethren wherever they may be, let us give God the thanks credit and all of the glory for what he has done for us. Let us thank God that we live in a land where we are not persecuted for our religious beliefs, let us pray for the peace of Zion. Let us stand in the face of our own adversaries who cause dissention and confusion among our brethren. Let us remain in the Old Paths and pray that we continue to walk therin. May God bless and keep each of you is my prayer.
